NBN Co Announces Wholesale Price Increases for July 2026
NBN Co has confirmed that wholesale prices for most NBN plans will increase starting July 1, 2026. The adjustments are linked to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) as part of the Special Access Undertaking (SAU) framework. Wholesale costs for some popular speed tiers are expected to rise by up to $4.00 per month, which may be passed on to consumers by retail service providers.
Mandatory Fibre Upgrades Confirmed for FTTN and FTTC Users
In a significant shift in network management, NBN Co has outlined plans for a "Targeted Upgrade" program. Starting in mid-2027, customers currently using legacy Fibre to the Node (FTTN) and Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) technologies will be required to transition to Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) to maintain active service. This move aims to simplify network maintenance and ensure all Australians have access to multi-gigabit capable infrastructure.
Successful Multi-Gigabit Trials Future-Proof FTTP Network
NBN Co has successfully completed trials of next-generation optical technology over its existing fibre network. The trials demonstrated stable speeds exceeding 10Gbps, proving that the current FTTP infrastructure can be upgraded to meet future demand without significant construction. This development paves the way for 2Gbps and 5Gbps residential plans to become common in the next 18-24 months.
